Perhaps it’s the new year roohaha or just a sudden inclination tonight. Either way, I’m moving on from blogger and entering the world of wordpress. You can still view my blogger at www.imuncovered.blogspot.com. This year I’m dedicated to updating this more often and making it a worthwhile read. From time to time you may find copied content from my postings on www.youthesource.com. So here’s to a new start with a new template and hopefully worthwhile thoughts and info.

The Dark Knight - Possibly the biggest movie of the decade, expectations destined this movie to disappoint. Heath Ledger did a good job as the Joker, but I'm not sure it's as legendary as people want to make it with his untimely death. As expected, the action was superb. The storyline was really good and the script brought suspense and human iniquity to a story very well known.

Hancock - I loved the concept of this movie and went in the theatre wanting to love it. Will Smith plays himself as a superhero. Good action, interesting storyline, and okay ending.

Kung Fu Panda - Not the greatest or the worst animated movie around. Lacks the buzz of Wall-E, but is two good hours of fun and uplifting entertainment.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - We've progressed from the ark, to the temple of doom, to the last crusade, and now a crystal skull. Which plot sounds the most ludicrous? You guessed right. Most incoherent storyline this year that appears to be written by a schizophrenic with ADHD...every 15 minutes there's a new plot introduced. Okay action...nothing that hasn't been done. Bad acting. Harrison Ford just looks old and out of breath.

Iron Man - When this came out a few weeks ago, my students were in awe. I ignored it as I'm not really into comics and so many of the efforts to remake comics have sucked for lack of a more sophisticated term. I was wrong about this one. This movie is awesome! Great action and peppy dialogue make this interesting and fun. On the comics movie scale, it's better than Spiderman and could possibly overtake Batman if the sequal is as good or better than the first.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian - Similar to Lord of the Rings trilogy in that the first movie focused mostly on setting the plot and the second was more action-packed. I also liked that they storyline was more complex and the conflict resolution was as black and white as in the first Narnia flick. Better than I expected.

Hitman - Above average action movie. Good storyline. Adrenaline-infusing action. Not a bad pitch-hitter of a movie.

Made of Honor - Obviously it was Meredith's pick after enduring The Kingdom. It's mostly My Best Friend's Wedding with the genders reversed. The story was okay, but there were a few scenes that were exceptionally crass and out of place for the storyline. I'm generally not a prude, but what do glow-in-the-dark thunder beads have to do breaking up a wedding and stealing the bride? Just distasteful.

The Kingdom - Interesting and compelling. Reminds me of Three Kings. Did an excellent job of showcasing the complexity of global politics, economics, and religion.

Into The Wild - Loved the book! Liked the movie a lot. How did this not get nominated for the original songs by Eddie Vedder? One of my favorite stories of all-time.

No Country For Old Men - I was cautious about watching this movie because it seemed to be a prime candidate for "the Oscar hype is better than the movie" movie of the year. The movie is slow, but I wouldn't want it any other way. The suspense is deep and thoughful. Javier Bardem plays the most terrifyingly calm villian I've seen in a long time. Not a big fan of the ending, but I get it.

The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters - Funniest movie I've seen in quite some time. It seems like something Christopher Guest would write, but is even funnier because it's a documentary. Old school arcade games are on a whole new level.

Juno - Deeply flawed movie that made me laugh and became a great discussion piece. Here's my expanded thoughts on Juno.

The Bucket List - While easy to follow and predictable, it's hard to not enjoy two incredible actors doing what they do best and having fun. There's nothing that stands out from a creative standpoint, but it's just good. From the female perspective, Meredith cried at the end.

I Am Legend - I have some friends who have really like this movie, but it wasn't what I was expecting. I'm not really into the sci-fi horror genre, so it won't be in my Netflix quere.

National Treasure 2 - I enjoyed the first movie and looked forward to this all December. Viewing alongside Meredith's family, this sequal was a completely unrealistic historical thrill ride. Great fun for what it is.

The Kite Runner - Great story that was paired with above average cinematography and solid acting. Meredith read the book and noted it was one of the more accurate adaptions she has seen.

P.S. I Love You - Meredith loved it...it made her happy...I survived. One of the less predictable moves of it's genre (girly crap).

Charlie Wilson's War - Tom Hanks plays the likeable character. Julia Roberts is the strong-willed heroin. Interesting story. Good movie.

Enchanted - Your feelings toward this movie all depend on your attitude going into it. I went with a light-hearted, happy mood (alongside my wife mind you). We enjoyed the movie. As far as musicals go, the songs are infectious and Amy Adams is phenomenal. The best part is that it doesn't try to something it isn't...just over-the-top fun.

Atonement - I really like the story. It moved slow at times and prolonged vital information. However, the cinematography was well-done and it avoided a formulaic plot. Keira Knightley is stunning. Definitely fits the mold that the Oscar folks prefer.

Ratatouille - Fun animated film for the entire family to enjoy. People that often find themselves mesmerized by the culinary delights of the world will love the subject matter and plot.
